News: Burna Boy Releases New Album + Tours North America This Fall

Posted on July 31, 2019 by

Today, Afrofusion artist Burna Boy releases his highly-anticipated new album, African Giant, via Bad Habit/Atlantic Records. Already one of contemporary African music’s greatest artists, the album will cement his stance as a global force to be reckoned with and showcase his enigmatic, borderless sound. The album includes previous releases “Anybody,” “On The Low,” “Gbona,” and “Dangote” alongside features from Future, Jorja Smith, YG, Zlatan, Jeremih, Serani, M.anifest, Damian Marley, and Angelique Kidjo.

African Giant continues a successful year for Burna Boy. He’s set to headline North America on his The African Giant Returns tour which begins August 9th at Toronto’s REBEL Festival and travels through September. All tickets available here. He made his U.S. late night television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, was named Apple Music’s Up Next Artist for the month of July, won Best International Artist at the BET Awards, and had two fiery live sets at both weekends of Coachella.

Born in Port Harcourt City, Burna Boy began producing music at just 10 years old, influenced by his dancehall and reggae-loving father. After graduating from school, Burna relocated to London for University, but dropped out and returned to Nigeria two years later to pursue his passion of music. Burna’s grandfather managed Fela Kuti for the first 15 years of his career, which helped shape Burna’s sound and his place in music as a representative of Nigeria, and more broadly Africa, to the world with the enigmatic genre he coined, Afrofusion.
