Stars today announced an extended run of North American tour dates in celebration of the 20th anniversary of their acclaimed 2004 album Set Yourself On Fire. Following a run of predominantly sold out shows this fall, the band will continue on the road early next year in select cities, including repeat stops in New York, NY, and Vancouver, BC. A current itinerary is below and tickets are on this Friday, November 1st.
“How could we not do more? A choir room of a community that’s been built over 20 years was too electric not to continue,” said Stars’ Amy Millan about the 2025 tour dates. Torquil Campbell, in a note to their beloved patreon fanclub, added, “I just wanted to thank you all for coming out to the shows and the patreon hangs, and for your ongoing support of this band. It is in no way hyperbolic to say that without the people who make up this community, this band would no longer exist. The shows we just played were played because you all stepped up and invested in art you believe in and enjoy[…]You are the final front in the war against cruelty and ugliness and disconnection from one another. Art makes us empathetic, it makes us beautiful, and it brings us together. Without you, the devils and dragons who want to rule this world will win. So a million thanks. you’re all a bunch of goddamn sweethearts, and I cannot wait to see you out there again soon. I hope someone supports you the way you support us. You deserve it.”
The band’s special 20th Anniversary reissue of Yourself On Fire is now available digitally and on vinyl via Arts & Crafts. The digital version features bonus tracks “Rollerskate” and “Petite Mort,” both rare tracks from the original album era made available via DSPs here for the first time. The vinyl version has been lovingly reimagined on 140g opaque red vinyl housed in a special die cut jacket with printed inner sleeve, and comes with a 12×24″ pinup poster and a temporary tattoo featuring the iconic flame design. New liner notes written by album producer Tom McFall also accompany the reissue. Signed LPs are available via Stars Patreon HERE.
Set Yourself on Fire drew international praise from the likes of Pitchfork, The Guardian, NME, Rolling Stone, Q, Entertainment Weekly, and SPIN amongst many others. The album, also regaled across Canadian music press, was nominated for Alternative Album of The Year at the JUNO Awards in 2005, and was certified Platinum in 2006. SYOF has seen continued praise and recognition at its 10th and 15th year anniversary marks–a true testament to the album’s staying power. Add to that a longstanding reverence for the way Torquil’s father Douglas Campbell’s voice ushers in the timeless, anthemic words “when there’s nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire” at the opening of “Your Ex-Lover Is Dead”; the now iconic phrase in the band’s discography was a telltale and powerful beginning for Stars on that album, as well as decades and decades later. The continued love and fervor for this record and the band’s extensive discography–alongside the many career accomplishments from continuous releases to international tours and festivals, to theatrical stages–all attest to the power of Stars.
