After a wildly successful inaugural year in 2022, the Phillips Backyard Festival Series (presented by Phillips Brewing & Malting Co and The Zone @ 91.3) is thrilled to announce it will be returning for two weekends this summer, featuring incredible headline talent alongside beloved local performers and up-and-coming Canadian artists.
The series will once again be hosted in the ‘Phillips Backyard’ with two talent-packed weekends that will bring festival, music, and craft beer enthusiasts together in the heart of Victoria. ‘Tilt!’ (July 7-9) will kick-off the series with DJ Pee .Wee (otherwise known as Anderson Paak) headlining the weekend alongside Bahamas and Lord Huron. This will be DJ Pee .Wee’s first time performing in Canada with his all-vinyl set which includes live horns and drums (performed by Anderson .Paak himself) that’s been delighting crowds around the US – most recently at SXSW.
Continuing the event’s commitment to highlighting diverse international talent alongside Canadian acts ‘Tilt!’ will also feature Bahamas, Lord Huron, Americana troubadour Neal Francis and renowned LA-based violinist and hip-hop vocalist Sudan Archives. The weekend will also bring fan favourites Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Montreal-based queer indie pop act Fleece and local emerging artists Pastel Blank and Nicky Mackenzie – among many others – to the stage.
In August the series returns for ‘Reverb’ (August 11-13) with internationally acclaimed American folk act Fleet Foxes alongside indie pop breakout Peach Pit, Seattle-based Soul R&B virtuoso Allen Stone and Victoria’s very own Jesse Roper – who’ll headline a rock-and-roll packed Friday night with The Blue Stones, Crown Lands, Little Destroyer and Acres of Lions. Other highlight acts for ‘Reverb’ include Jon and Roy, Hollow Coves, Ruby Waters and more.

Beer, Music, and Art: Over the past two decades Phillips Brewing has become synonymous with many of the things that Victoria is known for: Music festivals, a passion for the arts, and of course great craft beer. But, through this all, Phillips Brewing has stayed committed to crafting a space where musicians, artists, creators, and innovators gather.
For founder Matt Phillips, “bringing live music to the brewery is always exciting, it means we get to throw an awesome party with our incredible community.” Phillips is proud to be hosting a diverse artist lineup spanning genres, geographies, and backgrounds while also providing opportunities for local artists to be showcased.
Facilities: To ensure the best experience possible the Phillips Backyard will once again include private ample flush toilet facilities and running water handwashing stations so your concert experiences can be all about the fun and not about the lines.
About Phillips Backyard Festival Series: The Phillips Backyard Festival Series is one of Vancouver Island’s premiere outdoor events dedicated to world class live music, food and craft beer. In 2022 the event hosted over 30 acts across 3 weekends at The Backyard, continuing a legacy of live music and community gatherings hosted at the venue.
About Phillips Brewing and Malting Co.
Financed on credit cards, Phillips Brewing was founded in 2001 on the audacious principle that quality ingredients and a little creative flair can produce great beer. After 20 years, a few address changes, and a beer-flood, Phillips’ commitment to crafting quality beer as sustainably as possible continues to remain at the heart of everything. Today Phillips Brewing continues to share its passion for craft beer with more Canadians than ever before, thanks to its sales and distribution network that spans from the Pacific coast to the Great Lakes.
