News: Mirabelle shares video for “Phénomène”

Born of a ’90s seed, but decidedly modern, spacious and warm, Late Bloomer saw Montreal singer-songwriter Mirabelle at her inventive and intimate best. Out now on Simone Records, the album is a warm and brooding collection from Laurence Hélie, a reflection on self-acceptance, a celebration of oneself. It was recorded over almost two years in collaboration with guitarist, bassist Warren C. Spicer (Plants and Animals), drummer Matthew Woodley (Plants and Animals) and Christophe Lamarche-Ledoux (Organ Mood, Lesser EvilChocolat) on synthesizers.

Today, Hélie is sharing the video for “Phénomène“, directed once again by Frederique Bérubé (who was at the helm for the “Betty” and “Cheated” videos) and styled by Camille Pépin, owner of the vintage clothing shop Niche in Quebec city. The video is elegantly lo-fi, a stylish and psychedelic nostalgic vision, with Hélie explaining: “one of the common threads on Late Bloomer is my youth, my adolescence. For this video, I dove right into the 90’s with influences from that era. I remember watching so many music videos as a teenager and taping my favourite ones to VHS. I wanted the video for this song to be modern and lo-fi at the same time – fashion-y, fun and colourful.”
