Bleachers

TUESDAY, AUGUST 19, 2025

The Pacific Coliseum, typically home to sports and trade shows, was transformed into a sweaty, cathartic dance party last night as Bleachers brought their electrifying live show to the PNE Summer Night Concerts. Frontman Jack Antonoff, a figure who has quietly shaped the sound of a decade of pop music, proved that his own band’s brand of stadium-sized indie rock is best experienced in a room full of people ready to scream along.

From the moment the band took the stage, the energy was palpable. The setlist was a masterclass in pacing, weaving together tracks from their latest self-titled album with beloved classics from their entire discography. The show kicked off with the urgent, pulsating synth-pop of “I Am Right on Time,” immediately setting a tone of joyous chaos. Antonoff, a whirlwind of motion, commanded the stage with an infectious enthusiasm that spread to every corner of the venue.

Bleachers’ live sound is a beautiful, organized mess of saxophone wails, pounding drums, and layered synths, all anchored by Antonoff’s impassioned vocals. Fan favorites like “I Wanna Get Better” and “Don’t Take the Money” were absolute highlights, transforming into euphoric singalongs that echoed off the Coliseum’s high ceiling. The band’s chemistry was undeniable, with each musician contributing to a massive, anthemic sound that felt both intensely personal and universally relatable.

A standout moment of the night was the performance of “Chinatown,” which evoked a massive, heartfelt response from the Vancouver crowd. Antonoff has a unique talent for making a large, indoor venue feel as intimate as a late-night session in a garage, and this was never more apparent than during the more stripped-back moments of the show.

The Bleachers concert was a welcome dose of high-energy, life-affirming rock for the PNE crowd. It was a celebration of messy feelings, big emotions, and the power of a good synth hook. Antonoff and his band delivered a performance that was more than just a concert-it was a communal release, leaving everyone in attendance feeling a little bit better than when they walked in.
