Coco Jones

With support fromLady London

FRIDAY, MAY 30, 2025

On the evening of May 30, 2025, the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver was buzzing with anticipation as fans gathered to see R&B singer–songwriter Coco Jones, supported by rising hip-hop artist Lady London. Located at 918 Granville Street, the Vogue’s intimate 1,400-seat layout offered both panoramic sightlines and a palpable sense of closeness between performer and audience. By showtime, the lobby was abuzz with chatter about Coco’s meteoric rise over the past year and Lady London’s steadily growing underground following.

Lady London took the stage shortly after 7 p.m., immediately commanding attention with her confident delivery and magnetic stage presence. Backed by a minimal DJ setup, she skillfully mixed tracks from her recent EP with freestyled verses, showcasing her agility over beats and poignant lyricism about self-empowerment. Favourite moments included her breakout single “Flow State,” which had the crowd chanting the hook in unison, and a surprise tease of an unreleased song that was met with enthusiastic applause. Throughout her 25-minute set, Lady London’s commanding vocal timbre and stage banter warmed up the audience and set a high bar for the headliner.

At approximately 8 p.m., the lights dimmed, and a haze of purple and gold lighting illuminated the stage as Coco Jones made her entrance. Cloaked in a glittering, custom-designed jumpsuit (a nod to her Met Gala appearance earlier that spring), Coco immediately ignited the room’s energy with “ICU,” her R&B-infused anthem that shot to No. 1 on the Current R&B Album Sales chart earlier this year. The song’s slick production-driven by subtle guitar licks and tight percussion-sounded even more dynamic live, with Coco’s vocals blending vulnerability and control.

Throughout her 75-minute headlining slot, Coco expertly wove together tracks from her debut album Why Not More? (released April 25, 2025), with a few deep cuts and covers sprinkled in. After opening with “ICU,” she transitioned seamlessly into “Rich,” a soulful number that prompted the audience to sway in collective rhythm as its soaring chorus echoed off the Vogue’s ornate balconies. Midway through the set, Coco slowed things down with “Crazy for Me,” showcasing her emotive vocal range and turning the stage into a near-sacred space of quiet devotion as cell phone flashlights bobbed in unison.

One of the night’s standout moments arrived when Coco introduced Lady London for a surprise duet on the extended-edition track “Is It Mine (feat. Lady London).” The two artists radiated chemistry: Coco’s melodic hook intertwined with Lady London’s gritty verse, and the Vogue crowd erupted into euphoria when the chorus hit. The synergy between the headliner and opener underscored Coco’s knack for spotlighting emerging talent, while emphasizing their shared commitment to authenticity in R&B and hip-hop.

Visually, the show balanced minimalism with bursts of flair. Beyond moody colored washes and a smattering of low-lying fog, Coco’s dancers (a four-person troupe) executed tight choreography during up-tempo numbers like “Control Freak,” adding kinetic energy without overwhelming the vocals. Video projections-displaying close-ups of Coco’s expressive face or stylized graphics drawn from the Why Not More? album art-served as elegant backdrops rather than distracting spectacle. Sound engineering was crisp, ensuring that vocals stayed front-and-centre even when bass lines dropped deep.

Throughout the night, Coco maintained a warm rapport with fans, taking time between songs to share anecdotes about her creative process-particularly the personal growth she underwent while writing Why Not More? She openly thanked Vancouver’s crowd for their enthusiasm, acknowledging that Canadian stops often felt especially receptive to R&B artists breaking out of the US market. When the scheduled closing track, “Go Back to Love,” concluded around 9:15 p.m., the audience’s deafening calls for an encore drew Coco back onstage. For the encore, she stripped everything down to perform a tender acoustic rendition of “Bubbly Love,” layering harmonies over a lone guitarist’s gentle chords-a fitting, intimate finale that left many in the audience dabbing at tears.

Coco Jones’s May 30 Vogue Theatre show affirmed why she’s been heralded as 2025’s breakout R&B star. With a stellar vocal delivery, thoughtful song selection, and savvy pairing with Lady London, she delivered a performance that was both polished and heartfelt. From her early hit “ICU” to the vulnerable closer of “Bubbly Love,” Coco demonstrated artistic maturity well beyond her years-backed by a production that kept the focus firmly on her voice and message. For Vancouver fans, this night was more than just a concert; it was a confirmation that Coco Jones is poised to be a mainstay in R&B for years to come.
