The Hives

Vancouver’s legendary Commodore Ballroom was buzzing with an electric energy on September 16, 2025, as The Hives took the stage for a night of pure, unadulterated rock ‘n’ roll. Known for their explosive live shows and impeccably tailored suits, the Swedish garage rockers did not disappoint, delivering a masterclass in showmanship and tight musicianship. The crowd, a mix of long-time fans and new converts, was primed and ready for an unforgettable night.

From the moment the opening chords of “Enough Is Enough” ripped through the venue, The Hives were in full control. Frontman Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist, a whirlwind of charisma and frantic energy, commanded the stage, leading the band through a set that felt both meticulously planned and wonderfully chaotic. The setlist was a perfect balance of new and old, with tracks from their latest album, The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons, seamlessly integrated with the hits that made them superstars.

Songs like the blistering “Main Offender” and the fan-favorite “Walk Idiot Walk” had the floor of the Commodore Ballroom bouncing in unison. The band’s performance of “Hate to Say I Told You So” was a standout moment, with the entire venue singing along to every word. The new material, including the anthemic “Countdown to Shutdown,” proved the band is still as sharp and relevant as ever. The show was a non-stop barrage of catchy riffs, pounding drums, and infectious swagger.

The encore brought the night to a fittingly spectacular close. After a brief pause, the band returned to the stage to tear through the explosive “Tick Tick Boom,” which built into a euphoric climax. They finished the night with “The Hives Forever,” a powerful statement that left no doubt in anyone’s mind: The Hives are not just a band, they are a force of nature, and their brand of rock and roll is here to stay.
