Phillips Backyard Music Festival 2026: Chance the Rapper, Father John Misty and Modest Mouse Headline Victoria This July

The Phillips Backyard Music Festival returns to Victoria, BC from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12, 2026, taking over the grounds of Phillips Brewing & Malting Co. on Government Street. This year's daily headliners are Chance the Rapper (Friday), Father John Misty (Saturday) and Modest Mouse (Sunday) — and with weekend passes and Sunday single-day tickets already sold out, Friday and Saturday single-day tickets were the last ones standing as of publication.

Key details

  • Headliners: Chance the Rapper (Fri), Father John Misty (Sat), Modest Mouse (Sun)

A fixture of the Vancouver Island summer, the Backyard Weekender is exactly what it sounds like: a craft-brewery block party scaled up into one of the region's most beloved music festivals, held on the traditional and unceded territory of the Lekwungen, Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. The 2026 edition pairs genuine marquee headliners with a deep bench of Canadian and Vancouver Island talent across three days.

Friday, July 10 — Chance the Rapper

The Grammy-winning Chicago rapper opens the weekend, behind a career that turned mixtapes like Acid Rap and Coloring Book into one of hip-hop's great independent success stories. He's joined Friday by genre-blurring Los Angeles artist Duckwrth and rising acts Sophia Stel, Nicky MacKenzie and Dacey.

Saturday, July 11 — Father John Misty

Josh Tillman brings his ornate, wry brand of orchestral folk-rock to Saturday's headline slot — one of the most reliably compelling live performers in indie music. The day also features boundary-pushing violinist and singer Sudan Archives, longtime Victoria favourites Jon and Roy, plus Flower Face and Carmine.

Sunday, July 12 — Modest Mouse

Indie-rock institution Modest Mouse closes the festival on Sunday, a fitting finale for Island audiences. Montreal art-rock favourites Wolf Parade, plus Angine de Poitrine, Fake Shark and Darrian Gerrad, round out the final day.

There's a bonus for mainland fans: a couple of this year's Backyard acts are also playing Vancouver in 2026. Modest Mouse headline the Orpheum Theatre on July 3, and Angine de Poitrine play the Commodore Ballroom on August 25 — both on our concert calendar. From Vancouver, the festival is a quick ferry or floatplane hop across the strait.
