Squeeze and the story behind Trixies
Squeeze formed in Deptford, South London, in 1974, built around the songwriting partnership of lyricist Chris Difford and singer and guitarist Glenn Tilbrook. Across five decades they turned sharp, kitchen-sink storytelling into some of Britain's most enduring pop, from "Cool for Cats" and "Up the Junction" to "Tempted," "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)" and "Black Coffee in Bed."
The tour shares its name with Trixies, released March 6, 2026, and the band's first new album in more than eight years. Its backstory is unusual even by Squeeze standards: the songs date back to a concept record Difford and Tilbrook first sketched as teenagers in 1974, imagining the goings-on of London nightclubs they were still too young to enter. Shelved for roughly half a century, the material was revived by bassist and producer Owen Biddle and finally recorded, giving Vancouver audiences a set that reaches all the way back to the band's beginnings.
Adam Ant and Haircut 100 round out the bill
Few support line-ups carry this much history. Adam Ant, the "dandy highwayman" who fronted Adam and the Ants before going solo, delivered a run of early-1980s smashes including "Stand and Deliver," "Prince Charming," "Antmusic" and "Goody Two Shoes," pairing glam theatrics with a drum sound that still sounds like nothing else.
Opening the night are Haircut 100, the bright, funk-flecked pop band fronted by Nick Heyward whose 1982 debut Pelican West spun off the hits "Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)," "Love Plus One" and "Fantastic Day." Together the three acts make this Queen Elizabeth Theatre date a real night of British new wave and new pop, spanning the late 1970s through the MTV era in a single evening.
